San Pedro Sula Hotels

(A REAL list of suggested San Pedro Sula, Honduras Hostals and Hotels)

Many travellers to Utila need to spend a night or two in San Pedro Sula on the way in or out.  San Pedro Sula can be a difficult city to navigate, so we’ve included some tried and true recommended spots to stay.   This page is a locally produced information site, not an aggregator site, booking engine or other 3rd party site- just real information for the traveller~

Read This: Some Notes when staying in San Pedro Sula, Honduras:
1) Purified Water:  Don’t drink out of the tap or brush your teeth from tab water in Honduras.

2) Taxis: You’ll need to take a taxi from the airport or bus station to your hotel- don’t plan on taking local busses.  From the airport to town should be about $12-15 usd total, not per person.  From bus station to most hotels should be about $4-5 (75-95 lempiras) for first person, and just a little more for each addl person. Agree on your price ahead of time.

3) Safety.  Be vigilent about your safety in San Pedro Sula. Yeah we know you’ve travelled all through Central America, maybe elsewhere,  but San Pedro Sula is not a town to go off exploring by yourself- safety is a serious issue here and the locals will tell you that too.  You will likely not have any issues at any of the hotels below, but be sure to take a cab to any destinations and save your exploring for other destinations.

Good Option for Medium Priced: ApartHotel La Cordillera
In town, a few blocks behind the City Mall (but enough blocks that you should taxi, not walk to the mall for safety) and Mulitplaza Mall, and near Cemesa Hospital.  About $65 usd including breakast.  Clean and has restaurant on property.  If you are a single traveller, ask for a room closer to the office, as its a bit of a spread out property.
Telehone: (504)-516-0520
Website: http://www.aparthotellacordillera.com/   or http://hoteleslacordillera.com. There is no email and you have to use a form (with no comments) to contact them.   Update: We’ve sent 2 requests in, but they did not respond using the form and in the pastI have booked via the phone (but see update below).
Update: We’ve had friends say that on 2 occasions at check in the hotel didn’t have their reservations listed and they had to find another spot late at night and with a baby. So get a print out of your reservation!

Good Option for Medium Priced: Metrotel (formerly Microtel)
A good clean, and safe option near the airport. This is the most like a “US” style hotel.  Rates start at $63 usd plus tax including breakfast, free local calls. Pool on premise.  Location is close to airport so great for flights, but a bit far to head into town for dinner  (there is a restaurant on premise) and not ideal for getting to bus station.  Note:Even though its very close to the airport, some taxis will try and charge you the full rate to town, so negotiate and agree on price before hand.

Note: Metrotel seems to be getting really reviews in the past few years, but when we were there -2009?- after new management took over-, service was mediocre, the restaurant was horrible, and rooms were so-so.  We also made a reservation in advance that they had no record of and put us in first level room with windows that started 3/4 up the wall. So aim for not a ground level room, and hopefully the new improvements are here to stay.

Good Option for Medium Priced: Hotel Los Jicaros

Nice friendly service in this renovated home with clean and comfortable AC rooms. Rooms are clean and basic, with nice local art on the wall, but its the friendliness and humbleness of the staff that make us want to send others their way. Located right around the corner from Crowne Plaza and also a nice upscale restaurant across the street.  AC Rooms start at $60/$65 single/double, including continental breakfast.
