What Airlines Fly Internationally to Honduras?
As there are no international flights to Utila, you will want to fly into La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula, or Roatan (see discussion below on which is the best).
The following airlines have direct, non-stop flights to Honduras from the USA and Canada:
American Airlines:
direct from Miami to/from San Pedro Sula and Roatan
Continental Airlines:
direct from Houston to/from San Pedro Sula and Roatan. As of May 2010, currently there is a morning flight morning flight leaving Houston at 9:00AM and arriving San Pedro at 10:52. ( They have eliminated the evening flight #CO760 leaving Houston at 7:15PM and arriving San Pedro at 9:07PM. )
Delta Airlines:
direct from Atlanta to/from San Pedro Sula and Roatan
Spririt Airlines:
direct from Ft. Lauderdale to/from San Pedro Sularect from Ft. Lauderdale to/from San Pedro Sula. This is a budget airline with great prices, but also non-peak departure / arrival times (as in, at 1 am in the morning), so plan accordingly. Update July 2010: We have been advised by reader Kevin that starting in September the flight times are changed to arriving 12:23 in the afternoon and departing 1:20pm. This would be great news if they keep that up!
Sunwing Airlines:
a Canadian travel company offering discounted flights and vacation packages. Offering direct flights from Montreal AND Toronto, Canada to Roatan on Mondays. As of January, 2010, flights leaves Toronto on Mondays at 6:20am, Sunwing Airlines flight #WG784, arriving Roatan 10:10 am. Departs Roatan Mondays 11:10am, returning to Toronto at 4:25pm. Leaves Montreal Mondays at 9am, WG788, arriving Roatan 1:20pm, departing Roatan Mondays at 3:20pm, arriving Montreal 8:50pm
Note: There is another Canadian airlines, CanJet, that announced at end of 2009 chartered flights from Canada to Honduras. We contacted them and they said they do their bookings through through tour operators Transat Vacations (1-877-277-3948) (www.transatholidays.com) or Sunquest (1-877-485-6060) ( www.sunquest.ca) or Redtag.ca (www.redtag.ca) . However in January 2010, Transat Vacations said they are not offering this flight this year, thouugh may start again in 2011. Similarly, Sunquest also said they do not book the private charters with CanJet, and while RedTag has the flights from Montreal to Roatan, they said they are booked for Jan, Feb, March of 2010. So as of now, the Sunwing tour operator above may be your best best for direct flights from Canada to Honduras.
Taca:
direct from Miami to/from San Pedro Sula, continuing on to La Ceiba. Also Roatan.

What are the Times of These Direct Flights from the USA?
The times are subject to change, but there is a semi current listing of times of these direct flights that the folks at Destination Utila Vacation Rentals have put together.
Another good spot to do a check for all available flights is called Kayak – http://www.kayak.com or through Orbitz- http://www.orbitz.com . Both these sites will pull up multiple flight combinations – direct and nondirect- to help with your planning.

What City is Best to Fly In To Get to Utila?
See our discussion under Travel to Utila but in brief, because there are no international flights to Utila,
a) La Ceiba would be our first choice; this a smaller city on the coast of Honduras, and is the point of departure for the Utila Princess Ferry, which leaves daily from La Ceiba at 9:30am and 2pm. If you can’t make it to Utila in one day, we generally suggest staying in La Ceiba over San Pedro Sula, and have suggestions on San Pedro Hotels and La Ceiba Hotels in those pages.
b) San Pedro Sula would be our second choice; this is a larger city in Honduras, and from there you can take a flight to Utila on Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat at 2pm and get to Utila on the same day (you will want your international flight to arrive in San Pedro Sula by about 12:30 noon to allow you time for customs, etc.)
You can also take a direct bus, Hedman Alas, from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba- its air conditioned, and has reserved seats, Its about 3.5 hours and costs about $15 usd, but unless you leave on the 10am bus, you would have to spend the night in La Ceiba, and then take the ferry to Utila the next morning. You can find more information on taking the bus on our page, “Travel to Utila”, Item #10, “Taking A Bus Between San Pedro Sula and Utila”
3) Roatan is the next island over from Utila and is our 3rd choice for flying in. There used to be a large passenger ferry that ran between the two islands, but not any more. However, beginning last year, we saw the welcome addition of two new routes:
1) Vern’s Catamaran Roatan Ferry, which is a large catamaran that does the trip daily during busy seasons, and can be arranged during slow times. Leaves Utila about 6am and gets to Roatan about 11am; leaves Roatan about 1pm and gets to Utila about 5pm. Email Vern and vfine@hotmail.com.
2) Another new option this year is a charter service with Guanaja Air. This is a nine seater, but Capt. Angelo tries to combine folks and frequently others are going when you want, so its worth contacting him.
3) The only other regularly used option to/from Utila and Roatan is Capt Celine charter, who has a 3 seater. As of last check, this was about $300 usd one way for the plane. You can reserve Capt.Angelo or Capt Celine through one of our two Utila Travel Agents, Mr. Frank Morgan at Morgans Travel or Ms. Alice at Worldwide Travel.
